A cow's horn presentation snuff mull, in fine original condition, Scottish, 1836.

L8.5cm, 3.25"
Diameter 4cm, 1.5"

The lid is made of unmarked silver (as many mulls were) and is in perfect working order.

The tight curl to the end of the horn was achieved using heat, as horn is a thermoplastic material and was done to protect the owner from the sharp point.

The lid has an inset semi-precious citrine or cairngorm stone - both are forms of quartz.

It is very nice to be able to date this mull. Many cannot be dated with any accuracy as they are unmarked.

The badge reads "From Caledonian Horticultural Society to Mr. Thomas Reid at Rose Park for Finest Exotic Shrubs June 1836."
