A Dutch tobacco box made of brass, circa 1750. It is decorated to the front and back with typical Dutch-style naive engraving.

The front shows a man leaving behind a lady, who I presume is his wife, to go on a "trip."

The text is "ik gaa vlugte" - I will flee.

The scene on the back shows him living it up. The text reads "met genugte" - "With gladness!"

L11.5cm, 4.5"
W7cm, 2.75"
H3cm, 1.125"

The hinge is typical of its time and is a slightly different colour brass to the body of the box, which is correct.
